This site hosts a sampling of contemporary Union Pacific motive power. Considering the railroad has literally thousands of locomotives, it would be exceedingly difficult to show them all, even if I had infinite time to spend roaming the nation photographing them! However, I have shots of many classes, and will add more as opportunity presents. Navigate the menus above for specific categories of locomotives. (Note that I do not cover the historical fleet; other sites are better-equipped for that task. My scope is 1995 to the present.)
For some very helpful UP roster information, visit Don Strack’s Utah Rails site. UP locomotives are constantly undergoing renumbering, and keeping track of the changes is quite a challenge. Don has done a very good job of it.
I formerly maintained a separate section for repainted units from predecessor / merged railroads, but I have now moved these units into the main UP locomotive categories. I came to realize that keeping full repaints separate was pointless in an aggregated system such as UP’s.
